  • MEDICINAL PLANTS GARDEN

    BRI BRI, COSTA RICA

    broken image

    $0 of $6,000

Doña Inés Morales is a Bri Bri elder that has extensive knowledge in traditional medicine and has been working towards preservation of the Bri Bri indigenous culture throughout her life. Her farm is located within the Bri Bri indigenous reservation in the mountains of Talamanca.

Inés has extensive knowledge of medicinal plants from the Talamanca region in Bri Bri traditional medicine, the plants that heal the body and mind are also seen as having a spirit of their own. Doña Inés connects both with the uses of the plants as well as the spiritual meaning of each one and wishes to teach people how to honour plants as we use them, as well as the need to reconnect with the land as a way to re-connect within ourselves and preserve this ancient knowledge.

The territory she lives in is difficult to trek and has some accessibility difficulties. This project will develop medicinal plant trails alongside the farm to be able to guide visitors and help reconnect them with this sacred land she inhabits. We will construct a rancho where she can cook and feed people traditional Bri Bri cuisine and have a space to sell the artisan products of the Bri Bri culture.
