      • GYAYMI TEXTILES PROJECT: PHASE 2 YOUTH PROGRAM & BRAND LAUNCH

        NGÖBE BUGLE, COSTA RICA

        broken image

Phase 2 of this project follows a successful Phase 1 delivered via Futuro Nativo.

Darío Marquínez is the leader of the textile recovery project in the Ngöbe community of Alto Laguna on the Osa Peninsula.

To have continuity with the Osa Peninsula project in the community; we have the need to install electric current in the textile workshop as right now the machines are being used extensively for this using only extension leads.

Electric cables, ceiling lights, plugs and power strips are required; one for each of the machines. In addition we would need three power strips for voltage spikes.

We need metal sheets to finish closing the walls since only half the wall could be completed and in winter time when it rains, water enters the workshop. Both the fabrics and the machines and all the elements inside the workshop can get wet and suffer damages. Adequate lighting is needed; also scissors, needles of different calibers for the different machines, and paper cutting rules for pattern making. Plus an additional 2 further sewing machines to accommodate the increase in students.

For Dario to curate, initiate and manage both the youth training program, and create and manage the ethic textiles brand, he requires further training in business management, accounting and project management. He requires a computer, and to be able to formally register the textiles brand with a lawyer.
